held at the hp pavilion but we begin with claudine wong in santa cruz. >> reporter: good morning, yes the procession will start from behind me and there has been a lot of activity within the last half hour when we last checked in. search and rescue will be preparing for what will be this enormous procession that will go from here to san jose. it will start here and go to 8:45 and already we have an estimated 200 vehicles lining the streets to the 33-mile journey where tens of thousands will say goodbye. fellow officers and family had a private viewing and many were able to say goodbye at the funeral home. they have been guarding the officers around the clock honoring their life and

service. the healing process has begun but it will take time. >> it is helping people heel a little bit, get a little bit of closure. it will take awhile of course. >> so again, this procession will start here in the city where these two officers served. it will leave here and go in a single line down 87 and people will father at the arena hosted by one of the council members here and also downtown santa cruz is opening its doors and it is for whoever wants to gather and grieve together out here on the beach boardwalk parking lot and this does take a lot of effort to get everyone from place and they want to

there. butch baker was described as a friend and mentor and great investigator. detective elizabeth butler was well respected, worked as a drug act and hostage negotiator and worked in investigations in her career. both were gunned down last tuesday and their cass -- cass gets will be guarded to the hp pavilion. >> the hope is that we sends these officers off with the honor they deserve and that's what i want this to be about and i want the families to be pleased in the manner in which we have chosen to honor our fallen officers. >> we will have pamela harris, santa cruz county sheriff will

mission, what is out there, tara? >> reporter: we understand one man is fighting for his live at the hospital and another man is in custody. the closest intersection was blocked off initially and you can see an officers called quarry and they have informed us some sort of a fight broke out just after 2:00 a.m. and it was a big group and when people scattered there was a man down on the ground and he suffered stab wounds to his abdomen. police were able to obtain a suspect and he is not believing this is gang related and they are also saying perhaps the

suspect and victim knew each other. live from san francisco, tara moriarty. they suspect a major hit- and-run in santa clara. it happened on highway 101 just north of the great america parkway. witnesses said it real ended barreling into a tree. highway patrol said the suspect then took off. >> fortunately this collision was witnessed by a santa clara police officer and they made a stop on the suspect... >> now the suspect's identity has not been released, he faces felony hit-and-run and dui charges. >> that takes us right to sal how is it looking so far?

admitted he needed a bathroom break. scott mcfarland ktvu channel 2 morning news. a man hit and killed a 13- year-old girl in san francisco. karen brewer made his first court appearance. he had a .09 alcohol level and was barely above the illegal level when he hit the woman. not only was he drinking but he was driving 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. he hit her when he was crossing the boulevard and she had just come back from celebrating her birthday with her friends. he is facing up to 10 years in prison. loss altos police are hoping surveillance video helps them catch suspected bank robber. check this out. he went to a bank on third street yesterday morning and

move it until later. sergeant loren butch baker and deceive butler were killed in the line of duty. they are live in san jose where this morning's public memorial will be held, jeanine? >> reporter: it will be a very emotional day and since last week police officers have been working closely with the fallen officer's families to make sure the service is done right. the procession will come here on autumn street. sergeant baker and -- sergeant baker and butler were killed during a call. butler leaves behind a wife and two sons who work with the police department. butler worked in investigations and leaves behind her partner and two young boys.

both of their caskets are being guarded at the santa cruz memorial home and they will be escorted to the hp pavilion. 12,000 to 15,000 people are expected to pay respects and the motorcade is expected to be a mile long and they are asking drivers to the patient. >> we will be physically closing the on ramp so when transitioning to 85, we will be shutting down traffic going 85 southbound until the procession gets completely on to the 85 freeway. >> today in attendance at the funeral which begins at 12 will be governor governor jerry brown and pamela harris and

caskets of the two officers who had fallen last week. many will be able to watch the ceremony in downtown santa cruz and free parking will be available at depot park in santa cruz. an we have an effort to help the families, santa cruz police established a scholarship fund for the children. they have already donated 125,000 dollars to that scholarship funds. make sure you stay here all day long for special coverage. the public memorial begins at 11:00 with a service starting at noon. we want to update you on the service we first reported a half hour ago. a fight led to a stabbing early this morning.

tara moriarty is in the mission district as investigators are trying to see what happened. we just had an update from police and he is still in critical condition. this is not a robbery and what exactly happened here. let's take a look at the video where the violence broke out on mission street and 17th which happened just after 2:00 a.m. this morning. authorities said a group of men were fighting, one pulled a knife and everybody scattered. the victim has not been identified but again in critical condition at the hospital. one person is being questioned at the station and police are wrapped up their -- police have wrapped up their investigation and we will let you know if

jose's pavilion. it is in honor of loren butch baker and sergeant butler. they blamed a suspected drunk driver for a hit-and-run in santa clara early this morning. witnesses say the suspect rear-ended a white pickup truck smashing it into a tree suffering major head injuries. he was able to track town the suspect a short time later. a stabbing happened 2:00 a.m. and the victim is in surgery as we speak. police were able to catch suspect in the case and investigators do not believe it was gang related or even a robbery attempt. a storm which is moving across the country is taking aim at new england. a reporter joins us from the coastal town of massachusetts
